The
name for Point Mugu comes from the Chumash word Muwu, meaning beach.
According to their legend, the Chumash people came from Limwu (Santa Cruz Island) to the mainland years ago on a rainbow bridge created by the Earth Goddess Hutash. May I invite you to walk gently on the planet; use no more of nature's resources than you need. The flowering plants pictured include chamise (bushes with white flowers), wooly blue curls (purple-blue stalks) and yucca (tall white flower). The distant peaks just left of center include Sandstone and Old Boney and are the highest peaks in the Santa Monicas, just over 3,000 feet. This picture taken in Pt. Mugu State Park in California is during an El Niño year. |
